San Marcos Royal Thayer White advanced the Northern Region CIF Indiviudal Championship on Monday by shooting a 73 at Sterling Hills Golf Course in Camarillo. Thayer survived in a 3 hole playoff.
With 11 spots available, White was one of 12 golfers to card a 73, forcing a playoff that would eliminate only one. A bogey on the third hole ensured White’s spot.
“I was actually pretty relaxed the entire round, that’s why I think I did well,” explained White, who stayed away from any double-bogeys and chipped in for birdie on the 15th hole.
Thayer will join Jack Perry (Dons) and Niall Platt (Laguna Blanca)at next week’s CIF Southern Section individuals at La Hacienda.
Good luck Thayer!

The Royals continued their strong league play Thursday at BuenaVentura Golf Club, an away match against Channel League competitor Ventura, on a typical windy day playing about 1 club longer. SM shot 378 and defeated Ventura on their home course. Ventura shot 400.
The Royals roared back at La Cumbre CC on Tuesday with a big win over Channel League rival Dos Pueblos. This match might have been one of the most talked about golf matches of the season in SB. With Santa Barbara High well positioned to win the Channel League, securing the 2nd spot is very important to get a CIF berth. With both teams coming off a home loss to Buena, today’s match was crucial. DP only has 1 loss while San Marcos has only been able to get 2 wins until today. Coach Siordia’s observations:
Scott Bradford had another outstanding 18 at Tierra Rejada CC in Moorpark, a 6700 yard, hilly par 72.Scott led the Royals with a 71! Dodge Ward followed, turning in a solid round of 75. But it was another rough day for the team, with the Royals’ 407 a long way from Westlake’s 357. Medalist honors went to Brandon Hagy of Westlake, who shot 68. For San Marcos, John Etsell shot 81, Kyle Rieb 87 and Peter Wilson 89. It’s back to the drawing board on Friday at Alisal against Santa Ynez on their home track.
